May 30, 2007 Quickie Link: Surge in HIV cases in Hong Kong

(Hong Kong) - Efforts by health authorities to contain one cluster of HIV infections have failed, with genetic sequencing results showing that the cluster had grown to 53 infections from 34 in six months. According to reports, more gays had engaged in unsafe sex with people whom they made contact with through the Internet. Gay rights activists Joseph Cho Man-kit, vice president of the Hong Kong Ten Per Cent Club, said the government should adopt more qualitative research such as in-depth interviews with the homosexual community to understand their interpretations on risks.
