(South Africa) - "Out in Africa" Gay & Lesbian Film Festival and the Italian Institute of Culture are calling for for proposals for lesbian & gay short films (8 - 10 minutes length). The call is open to those who have some filmmaking experience, but who may not have yet had the opportunity to make a film.
A 15-day workshop in Cape Town, under the direction of Italian Filmmaker Laura Muscardin, will run from 15 to 29 June 2007. The workshop includes script development, pre-production, the shoot and editing (to final mix). Three or four people will be selected, on the basis of their proposal, to attend the workshop and make their film. Those who are selected for this incredible opportunity must be available for the duration of the Workshop.

Scripts should be “simple”. For example, a narrative piece should not require large casts, complicated cinematography (no crane shots, no expensive locations) or copyrighted music, and should be contemporary (for wardrobe and make-up purposes).

Out In Africa cannot provide travel expenses or accommodation for those who live outside of Cape Town.

We require a one-page Synopsis and two-page Treatment for a Queer film, narrative / fictional or documentary. The theme is HAPPY SNAPS – positive, amusing gay and lesbian stories are required.

The deadline for entries is: Friday, 11 May 2007. All applicants will be informed of the final selection by Friday, 25 May 2007.

The finished films will be screened at the November 2007 Out in Africa Film Festival in Johannesburg and Cape Town and will be included in the Video Suitcase, for use at various Satellite Festivals around the country.
