Wowi, as Berlin's mayor is known to almost all of the city's four million citizens, is none of that. Mr. Wowereit, 53, is youthful, elegant, flippant and gay in every sense of the word; he is also gaining enormous attention within Germany's powerful Social Democratic Party, which sees him as a strong contender to become the country's next leader.
