Well, apart from soliciting acts of prostitution being a crime in Florida (and yes -- that particular law ought to be repealed), the price being negotiated is abusively low. While that in itself is not all that illegal, it probably ought to be. Just how abusively low this offer of $20 is depends a good deal on a picture of the undercover cop in question. I'd be willing to wager that the fair market value of the man's time would have been closer to $200. This is about as criminal as offering a dishwasher fifty cents an hour -- not entirely illegal, but surely criminal.
For proper comparisons, I don't recall Mr. Foley soliciting any prostitutes -- everything he did was quite legal, as would what Mr. Allen is accused of doing had he been suggesting a friendly and free exchange of time and effort. On the occasions where Mr. Foley might have been construed to be offering "compensation in kind," the value involved was well in excess of $20 -- indeed, it was in the ballpark of the market rate for such things. |

I'd be inclined to get on my high horse and pitch forth a polemic on this guy's legislative 'crimes against the gay people,' but honestly, he's nothing but a sad sack who just got outed... and I rather doubt he's ever going to pose a threat to us again.

Hahahahahahahahahahaha. Sweetie -- you are now living this 'lifestyle' that you so disapproved of. A quick note to this creature's old friends -- they are being misinformed. I suspect very few of them would ever be as lucky as their confidant. Not all of us are so emotionally crippled that we will cast aside 15 years of wicked behavior. Speaking as one who was consistently referred to as "that guy" by a man who refused even to learn my name, I can tell this woman's old friends that what they are more likely to receive is a rousing chorus of "Ding Dong the Witch is Dead" when news of their funerals reach their estranged children. |

Judges are not famous for handing down maximum sentences even in Florida (though, of course, the option is always there). Note that had Mr. Allen simply asked after a sex act or two he would likely not have been charged -- it's not a crime to invite someone to have sex (though a sufficient lack of decorum can get one into legal trouble in many situations). Nope... it's the laws against the buying and selling of sex that he broke. And really... had he been willing to offer market prices to proper professionals he very likely would be able to conduct his private business quietly and undisturbed. After all... you pay an escort for their time and attention (perfectly legal) and they have sex with you because they like you  The man is cheap, and got caught trying to cheat naive amateurs into providing services for one-fifth to one-tenth their value. Whatever he gets (most likely just a fine) will be sufficient.
I am still mindful that he has been convicted of nothing. This is Florida, after all, and policemen have been known to lie most shamelessly about what they claim they have seen or heard, especially in cases like this. Mr. Allen says this is a "misunderstanding."
Were an investigation to be conducted into what, if any, crimes against the Gay people this Republican State Representative might have committed, I strongly suspect he would be due much more than a spanking and a fine. After all... this is Florida. The state's reputation for wickedness is not undeserved and it did not get that way by magic. People worked hard to earn that reputation for their state.
I'm all for the complete legalization of prostitution, but this is much more a case of petty theft. I don't propose legalizing theft of any sort. |

Yah. Just saying. I went there. I hardly make a habit of such things. True, I vote for cute puppies at puppywar (and make it a matter of principle to always, always, always vote against the dogs that aren't puppies at all, no matter how not-cute the opposing real puppy is), but I've never been drawn to such pointless wastes of time. Oy! Personally, I find him a tiresome queen. And it's not just because he's a self-styled "republican". But my husband just positively loathes him...unless he's hosting Celebrity Fit Club.
(Yeah, my man's tastes are of the lowbrow variety. That's one of our few aggravations. I want to watch "Keeping Up Appearances" he wants to watch "Flavor of Love Charm School" with M'onique.) |
