Rocky Horror attack caught on CCTV
Quote:
A VIOLENT electrician head-butted and punched a man dressed in drag in a homophobic attack in Cambridge.
...
The violent attack was caught, blow-by-blow, on CCTV monitoring the area, with images clearly illustrating the seriousness of the attack. Stevens, who works in Cambridge and lives in Basildon, Essex, was then tracked by cameras as he left the scene, and arrested a short while later in a city nightclub.
He admitted the attack when he appeared at Cambridge Magistrates' Court on Tuesday. Sentencing was adjourned until next month for probation reports.
Although the attack was not a direct homophobic assault as many members of the Rocky Horror Show audience dress in stockings and suspenders, a spokesman for Stonewall, the gay rights group, praised police for their quick work in arresting the culprit after he hurled anti-gay abuse.
The Cambridge Evening News is a trifle confused on this point. The accused is said to have called his targets "a load of fags" for their manner of dress. This makes it a hate crime. That such costumes have been traditional at showings of the Rocky Horror Picture Show for several decades is immaterial. |
