Bishop of Aquila comes out as gay and steps down

Quote:
"The homosexual priests have served the Church since its beginnings," said Catamiti, "and the Church should be honest with its servants and not display them as sinners." Catamiti revealed that there are more Catholic Bishops whom he knows to share his views but are afraid to speak out. "The atmosphere of hypocricy is simply unbearable. Almost everybody in Vatican knows that the Holy father himself is wearing red Prada shoes and uses to spend more time than necessary with young Guards, but noone sais a word loud" Catamiti added. "There is no reason why priests should feel ashamed of their orientation -- there is nothing wrong them. How can devotion to Jesus interfere with the devotion to handsome young men?"

How true. I myself couldn't say it better. Wink

What a remarcably courageous woman! She being an enemy does not deprive her of my respect for standing up for her beliefs.

If only all Gay people would show the same consequence and would leave each and every homophobic organization which they are voluntarily supporting. Imagine the Catholic Church loosing half of its staff and a significant portion of income -- what a bright day it would be! Instead, religious Gays are often twisting and wringling with their consciens and morals to build a bridge to somewhere where they should know is solely an open sea of hatred.

Religion and institutionallized religion are not the same thing. Should there be really some kind of God, this superior being would certainly not need any middlemen between itself and the believers. For a religious person, there is no need in middlemen as well - direkt talk to God is much better, and it's free.

What a co-inky-dink.

A devout Catholic who opposes paying dues to one of Canada's largest unions because of its strong support for gay marriage lost a key legal challenge yesterday.

Susan Comstock of Toronto, who has worked as a senior federal public servant for almost 35 years, had sought to divert the money to her church in protest.

She unsuccessfully argued that forcing her to pay about $800 a year in dues to the Public Service Alliance of Canada violated her right to freedom of religion and freedom of conscience.

[...]

She said she found out about her union's support for gay marriage in a memo distributed during the 2004 federal election campaign, in which PSAC vowed "zero tolerance" for homophobia and "heterosexism," which it defined as "the presumption that everyone is heterosexual and that heterosexuality is superior to other forms of loving."

[...]

Comstock said in court documents she is so strongly opposed to same-sex marriage that she left the Anglican church because of its "ambiguous" position, becoming a Catholic in 2004.
