A gay rights campaigner who was killed near his home had just published a report on homophobic crime in London.

The Evening Standard reports that market research boss Tony Hoare, 49, was attacked as he walked his two Jack Russell dogs in Charlton Park on the way home from the Swan pub.

He was found unconscious and died in hospital.

A curious story. It's fairly customary to identify people charged with serious crimes by name. It's also fairly customary to mention, at least in passing, the details of the allegations against the accused.

Two other men where released on bail. But there still needs to be further investigation to see if they can charge them with anything. Yet, they were released ON BAIL. British authorities are weird.

Not necessarily. There seem to be a difference from country to country in handling such things. Where I live, the police would not release details even on convicted killers, with respect to their "privacy". It is regarded as counterproductive to their future re-socialisation when they will have their sentences served. I do not know the exact rules in the UK, but they will probably not release names of the suspects.
