Well, at least according to MTV Canada...

Quote:
MTV Canada has created a new commercial featuring a gay kiss, oddly to warn against the perils of pot-smoking.

The Saatchi & Saatchi created ad features a trio of young men sitting in a car in an empty car park, apparently after smoking marijuana. Two of the boys kiss, provoking a stunned response from the third. Click here to take a look.

Oh dear...that's what did it. Da evil ganja. So, I suppose a hit of coke will make my penis shrivel and make me grow tits and drop my voice a couple of octaves, huh? Gettin my wig. Don't know when the transformation's gonna start.

Oh, they are entirely wrong on cannabis - that's not it. In an article on its website, an islamic community in Germany suggested that homosexuality is caused by consumption of pork. The pig, being an immoral animal itself, allegedly transfers all kind of deseases - among them homosexuality - to those who do eat its meat... Before you guys get panic and run to the next butcher to get some pork to be sure -- being a vegetarian does not cause you turn heterosexual!

And here the fundy wing-nuts are convinced that the cause is the phyto-estrogens in soy products.

With all these "causes" floating around, I have to wonder how there manage to be any straight people at all.

I think there's actually a lot fewer of them than they'd like to let on. I mean, there's all sorts who claim to be straight who are actually just fake straight people...

Hey all! Don't know if you've evolved a protocol on cross-board posting, but this didn't get taken up when I posted it elsewhere, banter overtook it ... this PSA is almost identical to one that was rejected by Mothers Against Drunk Driving last year. Saatchi and Saatchi either have really poor short-term memory, a singular lack of creative ideas, or some pretty nasty homophobia. All of the above?

Good spotting, Diane, that is almost exactly the same as the crap that that Saatchi & Saatchi wanted to do as a PSA for MADD. I think that the advertising company has a fixation. And that they had this ad concept, and MADD (to give them some begrudging credit) said no way, so they just shopped it around until someone else bit.

This is the letter they apparently sent to MADD:

Quote:
On behalf of Saatchi Canada I would like to apologize for the press you received in The L.A. Independent. The facts of the story were wrong. The spot was not being created to go to air and you had no awareness of the creation of this spot under the name MADD.

Saatchi & Saatchi was working on their own in an attempt to test areas that were more relevant to a younger target group. One of the areas was the spot described in the article. Sometimes it is better to see concepts shot in a rough form in order to see if there is any merit in their application.

When it comes to advertising to a younger target, pushing the boundaries is what we have to try to do, but it should never be at the expense of an individual or any group.

It is unfortunate that news of this spot got out since the likelihood of it advancing was improbable.

I encourage our teams to always be thoughtful of all of our clients in a proactive fashion. It is regrettable that on this occasion our actions had a negative effect. Again, I would like to stress how truly sorry we are for that.

All action has been terminated on this spot. Should you have any comments or concerns please do not hesitate to contact me at the above number.

Sincerely,
Brett Channer
CEO/Executive Creative Director

Ahem, no special protocols for cross-posting on GRD... Means, post away as you please. Wink

They would make a much better picture by just thinking of what is wrong and what is right. Inciting ridicule against any group of decent people is simply wrong -- no matter, whether it affects one's sells negatively or not.
