Jul 03, 2007 News: Gay Radio Station Wins Third Prestigious Award
By vanrozenheim

(London, UK) - GaydarRadio was yesterday (July 2) crowned Commercial Radio Digital Station of the Year at the Arqiva Commercial Radio Awards 2007. The digital radio station which is also streamed on the internet, beat off stiff competition from other finalists PlanetRock, last year’s recipient, and The Jazz, to take the accolade at a ceremony at London’s Royal Lancaster Hotel. The 'gong' follows right on the heels of a prestigious Gold Sony for GaydarRadio which was crowned UK Digital Terrestrial Station of the Year in April. And last October, the network was voted Best Radio Station by its listeners in the BT Digital Music Awards.

The Arqiva judges said GaydarRadio was a station that “had established a presence in major gay community events and added diversity to digital broadcasting.”

Receiving the award, Programme Controller Robin Crowley said:

“It’s been one heck of a year for us, said programme controller Robin Crowley as he received the award.

“In March this year, we turned five-years-old with our biggest audience figures ever, more live programming then ever and brand new funky station idents which reflect that fact that GaydarRadio is the sound of Gay UK.

“It’s also been a year that has brought us closer than ever to our audience, with the opening in Soho of Profile, our very first live entertainment venue. Naturally, we will be celebrating this most recent success with another humongous party.”

■ GaydarRadio is available in UK on digital TV channel 0158 and on Digital Radio (DAB). Across Europe, the radio station is on the Eurobird satellite. It is also streamed on the Internet: www.gaydarradio.com.
