Nov 05, 2006 Articles: We Want Your Support, Pleads Nepalese Lesbian After Forced Separation
By VZ

(KATHMANDU,NEPAL) - As human beings we want to live together. That is simple the message from 27-years old Nepalese lesbian Nirmala Lawati who has been forcibly separated from her partner of five years, Nirupa Rai.

“We want your support,” she pleaded.

Nirmala explained that Nirupa’s mother and relatives visited the house where the couple lived.

“They asked Nirupa why – and on what grounds – she was living in the house,” Nirmala said. “ replied that she had married and that is why she has to stay here.

“They then asked her who her husband was, and Nirupa said it was me” Nirmala continued. “Then they used lots of bad language against us both and took us to the police station with the help of Urmila Bhandari, leader of CPN (UML) and the police.”

Inspector Narayan Prasad Chimoriya of the area police office in Damak, Jhapa said in a statement: “Society brought them in police office accusing Nirmala of domestic violence and of victimising Nirupa.

“That's why I kept them in station for one night to investigate. I didn’t find any domestic violence.

“After long discussion with their parents, I handed them over to their parents with written paper. So I don't know where Nirupa is,” he said.

However, Nirupa has been in telephone contact with Nitshalta Lawati, leader of Jana Morcha (Peoples’ Front) Nepal and has said that she is committed to living with Nirmala.
